Installfests

Note

Unless we can find a kind person to host future GoLug installfests we will be unable to have future installfests. If you can host an installfest or know someone who can please post on mailing list.

About Installfests

Installfests occur on Saturdays, typically the third Saturday of the month, lasting typically from 9am to 3pm. Check the next installfest link for exact date, time and other info. The purpose is to install Linux and otherwise get down and dirty with Linux/free software experimentation, including programming, admin, and hardware.

  • New: During all InstallFests there will be someone who will help Linux first timers install Linux. There isn't a guarantee that the help will be successful as that depends mostly on the hardware and the volunteers experience. But we at GOLUG do promise to try. Please join the mailing list and let us know you are coming if you need installation help. We might ask questions about your hardware and give recommendations on what distributions best fits your needs.

Installfests can include presentations if there are willing presenters. Such presentations typically occur in a corner so that those wanting to view the presentation can do so, while those wanting to continue their own experimentation can do so.

When attending installfests, please bring a keyboard, mouse, monitor, power cords and eithernet cables for each computer you bring. SCC can't let us use their monitors, keyboards and mice. However, you can plug your ethernet cable into their subnet, which has a very high speed connection to the Internet.

Installfest Topics

Topic for the April meeting needed! Check the list for the thread about suggestions...

Current future topic list:

  • Rolling your own LiveCD. During a future InstallFest we will be rolling our own mini LiveCD. If you would like to participate, you will need a computer with a blank harddrive. A small 1 or 2 gig harddirve will be fine if you have an old one of those laying around. Larger that that should be fine also but it must be blank.
